Product management training and consulting aimed to develop the skill base in the country.
Background and Role
There are a ton of product management resources and reference but the majority of them is not applicable in the Philippines given the gap in technological-advancement and the current maturity of local tech organizations. As the co-founder and program director, I built our initial website for free using Google Sites and I was in charge of creating and improving our curriculum.
Early Results
Our initial idea was to provide product management training to startups. We were able to conduct training for one startup but then the pandemic happened which forced us to rethink our approach.
Iterations, Metrics, and Strategy
We decided to make two major iterations: switch to a direct-to-consumer approach and of course, change it to online training. Here are the different iterations that we did: 1. One five-hour course while partnering with a career coach startup and targeting young professionals. Result: We were able to get paid clients even though it was a revenue-share model. 2. We decided to launch the online event on our own by partnering with a school organization. Result: Double the number of participants from our previous program. 3. Since we got feedback that the one-day synchronous training was too long, we decided to make it into a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions and just focus on students and beginners, Result: We were able to increase the number of attendees and increase the engagement rate overall. Due to the different iterations, we achieve the following results in a year: - 70+ paid participants with a 98% completion rate of our courses The number of participants that we had generated free marketing through social media and LinkedIn posts which led to the following: - another revenue stream through a partnership with a talent-sourcing company, swarm.work, where we provide product management consulting to early-founders looking to build a tech product. - a more advanced curriculum that caters to those who want to improve their product management skill. - a podcast series where we interview founders and professionals, discussing everything product management.
Most Importantly
We were able to build a product management community aimed at improving the skill base in the country. At the end of all our training sessions, we share this plea with our participants:
It is our professinaol goal to uphold this principle, to only build and grow products that provides positive impact to the world.
